BMW Group’s biggest EV debut this year is the BMW i7, the pure electric sibling of the all-new BMW 7 Series. The full-size electric sedan competes with the Mercedes EQS and the Tesla Model S. The i7 includes the most powerful variant of the all-new 7 Series family – BMW i7 M70 xDrive. However, that will arrive at a later stage.
At the market launch, BMW Group will offer an i7 xDrive60 that focuses more on efficiency and range. This variant packs two motors generating 400 kW (536 hp) of system power and 745 Nm (549 lb.-ft.) of system torque. A standard 101.7 kWh battery pack should provide a range of ~300 miles as per EPA’s testing method.
Inside, the i7 flaunts a headline-making feature called BMW Interaction Bar, a light and function strip on the dashboard and door panels. A part of the car’s ambient lighting, the BMW Interaction Bar has integrated control buttons and provides visual and haptic feedback. A 31-inch ultra-wide screen with a 32:9 panoramic display format and 8K streaming resolution makes the i7 the car with the ultimate rear-seat entertainment system. Another highlight is a newly developed panoramic glass roof called Sky Lounge.
The i7 is now available to pre-order in the U.S. It costs USD 119,300 + USD 995 destination, and its launch will take place by December 2022.
